Instructions
Visit the Microsoft site found in Resources. Check the latest pieces of software and operating systems against what your computer currently has. Click on any that you want to upgrade. You may have to pay to upgrade certain things, like your operating system or software. You can get some things for free, like the newest versions of some programs or web browsers.
Go to your PC's manufacturer's website. If you don't know what site that is, try typing "www," followed by the name on your computer, such as Compaq, Dell, or Hewlet Packard, followed by a .com. If it isn't the exact site, you'll usually be redirected to it. Search through the site for upgrades to your computer that you can purchase and download online. Some upgrades might include firmware upgrades and some software upgrades. Some will be free, and some will require payment.
Go to both the Microsoft site and the site for your manufacturer. Click on "purchases" or "upgrades" or "store." Look through the items for things you can purchase online but will need to install by hand. These might include memory chips, sound or video cards, DVD burners or players, new keyboards or screens, or other types of equipment you can buy and have shipped to you.
